In this lesson you will learn how to read and write algebraic expressions by using variables.

“10 less than a number” is NOT the same as “10 minus a number.” Read carefully and don’t forget the variable!

Variable- a letter that takes the place of a number x, y, a, b, l, w, h

+ add, plus, total, sum, increased by subtract, minus, difference, decreased by, less than x multiply, product, total _ divide, quotient, break into equal parts
