Presentation transcript:

College GO Week 2018 Senior Presentation

Application Process -RESEARCH!!!! Naviance’s Super Match, top 3-5 schools -Application fees and fee waivers -Beware of deadlines (regular decision, early decision, etc)-NOVEMBER 1ST!!! -Supporting documentation (letters of recommendation, test scores, transcript, personal statement) -When requesting letters of recommendation, please give your recommender at least 2 weeks notice!

Application Process Complete the college’s online application-find on their website Independent application vs. Common Application 2. Personal Statement-make sure you proof your essay before you submit 3. Request your high school transcript-use your Naviance account 4. Send your test scores (ACT, SAT) a. Scores on your transcript vs. scores from testing agency 5. Letters of recommendation (if required)-ask someone that knows you well and give them 2 weeks notice

Financial Aid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)-opens OCTOBER 1ST! -If you are applying to college, you MUST complete the FAFSA to qualify for any state or federal financial aid -Some scholarships may also require you to complete the FAFSA -Know your deadlines! Indiana state deadline is April 15th. Some schools have earlier deadlines (December 1st, March 1st) so pay attention to this. -College Goal Sunday: Oct 28th at 2pm and Feb 24th at 2pm

Scholarships How do I find scholarships? -Guidance website -Fast Web: www.fastweb.com -College Board: www.collegeboard.org -Naviance -Your college’s website -Listening to morning announcements or checking schoology posts

Scholarships -Make sure you are checking requirements, deadlines, and how to apply -School specific scholarships: Automatic vs. Competitive -Automatic: no separate application, get your college admissions application in by November 1st, if you qualify you get the scholarships -Competitive: does require a separate application or you may be asked to apply

Test Scores SAT, www.collegeboard.org ACT, www.actstudent.org -Most colleges will want scores directly from the testing agency -If you plan to take the SAT and/or ACT again, when you register, take advantage of entering in schools you want your scores to go to for FREE -If you skip this step, you will have to pay to send your scores later on -Colleges will superscore, so it’s important to take the test at least twice!

Where will you end up?
