What are credits and Verified Credits? Every class you take (and pass) in high school is worth 1 credit. A verified credit is earned when you pass a class and the SOL test that goes with that class.

Standard Diploma Discipline Area Credits Verified Credits (SOL’s) English 4 2 Math 3 1 Science History/Social Science Health/PE Foreign Language, Fine Arts or Career and Technical Education Must pass 1 CTE credentialing test- ( Personal Finance *) *Economics and Personal Finance ( counts as 1 virtual class and has credentialing test*) Electives (2 must be sequential) Student Selected SOL ( math , science or history) Total 22 6

JFHS Schedule- 6 periods 8:55-3:35 There is the option of taking 7 periods, a “Zero Period Class” that starts at 7:55. There are only a few courses offered “Zero Period”. Summer School is also a way to take more classes.

Course Selections All rising 9th graders must choose: English Science Math History Health/PE Foreign Language/Electives ( 1 or 2)

SOL Tests Math – Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry Science – Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry History – World History I, World History II, US History English – Reading and Writing (11th grade)

Important information about JFHS There are 3 lunch periods at JF- go by 4th period class-not by grade level , students are allowed to choose where to sit each day. Must change clothes for gym class. Lockers are optional, students are allowed to carry their backpacks.

More Info… Students must take and pass 5 new classes to participate in VHSL activities. JF has 6 classes per day with an optional 0-period class that starts at 7:55 ( there are only a few classes offered) JF does not have A/B day- every class meets everyday.

Counselors from JF will come to FMS in February to meet with each 8th grade student to pick out classes for next year.
