Higher physical education Factors impacting performance unit Outcome 2.4

A ‘sporting’ round-up… 1.1 – Analysed data collection methods 1.2 – identified strengths and weaknesses 1.3 – analysed development strategies used to improve weaknesses 2.1 – summarised and justified pdp 2.2 – explain monitoring & recording methods 2.3 – evidence your sessions (training diary) 2.4 – evaluate your pdp and monitoring method (training diary)

The outcome… Evaluate effectiveness of the development plan and the methods used to monitor development.

The command word…’evaluate’ We need to measure something if we want to improve it. Evaluate literally means judging something’s credibility It means give a value judgement (qualitative or quantitative) The judgement needs to be evidenced Higher pe evaluate question: Evaluate a development strategy used …… I mark answer ‘ This method is high in physical validity because the training takes place in a game-like environment. ‘

Types of judgement (evidence) Qualitative Quantitative Higher/lower 5 More Baskets Shorter/Longer 3 Less Fouls More/Less 30% Possession Increased/Decreased 2 Own Goals Maximum/Minimum 1.8 Seconds Less

Evaluate…common words

Some tips to evaluate successfully  Use a qualitative word to describe a movement, a player, a goal being scored BUT… State the evidence you have in order to be able to make the judgement you did Therefore use qualitative judgement backed up with a quantitative judgement if possible So…. ‘The training diary is worthwhile because it looks at the 5 key areas of my training sessions allowing me to identify the points when my sessions became too easy. ‘ Some tips to evaluate successfully 

Come up with five different introductory sentences to evaluate your pdp (one of these sentences must relate to your training diary). For example… “The PDP needed to be longer by two weeks in order to allow me enough time to reach my long term goal.” “I used repetition practices for up to 30 minutes at a time which proved to be too long as I became bored soon after 15 minutes.” Today’s task

What more will I need to do for outcome 2.4? Just think…evidence! (“by the end of my six weeks, I was only making 50% of my tackles successfully. This was 20% off my long term target. “) Then think…so what?! (“These two weeks would allow me to get closer to my long term goal by enabling me to continue working closely on developing my tackle technique and confidence tackling during a game.”)
