Cardiovascular disease Student name: Date: Complete the brace map and demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of major diet related health risks: cardiovascular disease. What causes CVD? Risk factors Cardiovascular disease Prevention Practical food based advice Cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, is a common cause of death and ill-health in the UK. It is, however, largely preventable. Death rates from CVD are falling, but it is still a major cause of premature death (i.e. before the age of 75 years) in the UK and in 2012, 26% of male and 18% of female premature deaths were attributed to CVD. In total there were almost 42,000 premature deaths from CVD in the UK. © British Nutrition Foundation 2015 www.foodafactoflife.org.uk
