Welcome to Mrs. Stigter’s Curriculum Night

A Little About Me I live in Mokena with my husband of 16 years and our twin 12 year old daughters. I enjoy gardening and taking care of our 18 pets. – 2 dogs, 9 chickens, 4 ducks, 2 goats and 1 turkey. I love to spend time with my family. We love to go to my parents lake house during the summer. My passion is teaching!

Educational Background I graduated from Western Illinois University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with endorsements in Science and Language arts. I recently earned my LBS1 Special Education endorsement from University of St. Francis. I have been teaching in Summit Hill School District for the past 9 years.

Weapons Policy “Illinois Law requires that the school officials expel a student who is determined to have a weapon at school, or any school sponsored activity or event, which bears a reasonable relationship to school. Weapons including not only guns, buy also look alike, and any object used to cause or threaten injury. The expulsion from school must be for a period of time of not less than one year except that the Superintendent of the School Board may modify the expulsion period on a case-by –case basis. Students, who threaten to use a weapon, even if intended as a joke, will also be dealt seriously in order to maintain the safely of students and district 161 employees. All teachers are expected to explain this policy to all students on the first day of school.”

Formative & Summative Assessments Assessments and Grading The goal of assessment is to support learning. The goal of grading is to evaluate learning. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT Formative assessment is about feedback. It is practice for learning. Formative assessments refer to a student’s understanding of what they can do well and what they can improve. Formative assessments guide the next steps in the learning process. Formative assessments will count as 25% of a student’s quarterly report card grade.

Assessments Continued SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT Summative assessment provides evidence of a student’s mastery of skills. Summative assessments will count as 75% of a student’s quarterly report card grade.

Summative Reassessments We believe learning about a particular topic extends beyond the due date or test date D/F = requires a reassessment A/B/C = one reassessment per subject, per quarter upon request The most recent score will be recorded

Parent / Teacher conferences are November 19th and 20th Please sign up tonight
