Huntsville City Schools is Excited to Announce the Roll-out of the Student Technology Enhancement Program (STEP) to Assist Students with Wi-Fi Access at Home STEP is an initiative of the Huntsville City Board of Education for the purpose of enabling or enhancing digital learning environments through continuous access to mobile internet service. As with other District initiatives, all relevant Policies and Procedures (included Acceptable Use Policies pertaining to use of District technology) will apply. We are proud to offer this program to support digital learning in HCS. Your school will be assigned a set of instructional materials for the start of the school year. This count will be based on the ratio of students in the specific course (see next slide for ratios). A district-wide inventory adjustment will be conducted by the Instructional Materials team in September and January of each year to account for any fluctuation in enrollment. The student materials are to be housed in the library or library’s storage room for student availability. Teacher materials are to be checked out to the teachers in Booktracks by the librarian. As the need arises, the librarian will check out these materials to students to use during the school day. It is up to the LEA’s discretion if the materials are allowed to be checked out overnight or for an extended period of time.

This form may be completed online - S.T.E.P. Parent Consent Form HCS HotSpots can be requested in the morning through the librarians, but students will need to pick them up at the end of day. Check out time is 48 hours (2 days). During extended breaks (Spring, Winter, Fall) HCS HotSpots will not be checked out. The HCS Hotspot is to be used for educational purposes only. A Parent Consent Form must be signed each school year for the student to participate in the Program. Consent expires each school year on the HCS scheduled last student day.
