Prometheus We will be reading a short story about Prometheus, a mythological character, who was faced with a conflicting decision. Do you agree or disagree that our journeys in life involve conflicting decisions?

Prometheus...Vocabulary Titans-- The noun titan comes from Greek mythology, in which the Titans were a race of gods. Zeus-- the supreme deity of the ancient Greeks Prometheus--a titan in Greek mythology, meaning Forethought Epimetheus--a titan in Greek mythology, meaning Afterthought Mount Olympus-- the dwelling of the Gods Fennel-- an aromatic yellow-flowered European plant of the parsley family, with feathery leaves. Hearth--the floor of a fireplace Hercules--a mythical Greek hero renowned for his great strength

Text Dependent Questions-Answer in Complete sentences Since Prometheus actually means “forethought,” find evidence in the myth of Prometheus portraying this trait. In the myth, Zeus responds to Prometheus’s request for fire by the following: “I will not! Not one spark will I share with them!” Find this in the text and read what Zeus continues to say. What does his response overall reveal about his character? How does the central idea of this story relate to issues we face in our present society? What challenges would mankind have faced if Prometheus had not stolen fire from the gods? How is suspense for the reader created through the different points of view of the characters? Why did Zeus surmise that Prometheus had been the one to steal fire from the gods? Find text evidence to support your claim.
