Greek Religion by: Madison Dietsche

Gods and Goddesses In ancient greece they believed in gods such as Zeus (god of the sky), Poseidon (god of the sea), Hades (god of the dead) , and many more. The greeks believed that the gods controlled the universe there for they believed that if you made a god angry they would do something to you but they would help you if you pleased them. When something went wrong they thought that one of the gods had been irked or insulted.

Sacrifices Since the greeks believed that their lives were controlled by the gods they worshiped them by offering prayers before they did anything important. The greeks also sacrificed animals to the gods and after an ox or goat was slaughtered they examined the organs to ensure that they were ok and if they were the greeks would roast them over the fire. This was one of the few times that the greeks would eat meat. Usually they ate bread, vegetables, cheese, or fruit.

Godlike Heroes Theseus was a very brave man that risked his life to fight the minotaur Jason was one of Zeus's many sons that set out to find the golden fleece Cadmus fought the legendary dragon, and then planted his teeth in the ground so an army would spring up from them

Concept of Death When a person died the women in the house would wash the body with olive oil, dress it in white, then they placed a wreath on their head. A man then buried the body with some of their possessions.

Oracles Oracles are people that regular people could go to when they wanted to ask a question about the future
