Early Life Born November 7, 1879 as Lev Davidovich Bronshtein Yanovka, Russia Sent to Odessa age 8 for education Introduced to Marxism late teens Soon joined South Russia Workers Union Soon took part in strikes and revolts

Joining the Revolution 1898 was arrested and exiled to Serbia for taking part in Revolutionary activity Escaped in 1902 and permanently changed name to Leon Trotsky Back in Prison after failed 1905 revolution Escaped again a few years later and lived in cities in Europe and the U.S

Revolution Returned to Russia following Tsar Nicholas’ abdication in 1917 Became a Revolution leader in Lenin’s Bolshevik Party Lenin descended to power in new Soviet Union and Trotsky named people’s commissioner for foreign affairs

Revolution One year later after crafting the treaty to remove the soviet union from World War One Trotsky was placed in command of the red army His position in the New Soviet power structure was second only to Lenin Although these positions were short-lived after Lenin’s death in 1924, and Trotsky who was Lenin’s hand picked successor was ultimately beaten and phased out and exiled by Joseph Stalin.

Post Revolution Trotsky continued to criticize Stalin and Staling basically retaliated by accusing Trotsky and 16 of his enemies of treason to overthrow him. August 20, 1940 Trotsky was attacked in hi home in Mexico with an ice-pick by one of Stalin’s assassins and after multiple stabs to the head Trotsky dies the next day due to the injuries. Most of Trotsky’s Family were killed in separate attacks.
