Why can Ming do what Johnny can’t? Tatiana Roy Elijah Wu

How it’s happening China has been the world’s fastest growing economy Economic reforms since 1978 Bigger role in world trade + international economy Outsourced manufacturing center of the world

Why this is an issue Recently there’s been concerns about whether China will replace the United States as the economic superpower of the world. One country doing so much manufacturing = all eggs in one basket

Why it’s important Major topic in recent news Implications for the future Will people start moving to China like it’s the “promised land” instead of the United States? Is our education in science and technology falling behind? Are they better prepared for the future of business?

This is a Youtube Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2iwzxG9uMs

This is a graph

What we asked Are Asian countries pulling ahead of the U.S. in some areas of science and technology? Are Asian countries already ahead of the U.S. in some areas of science and technology? Which provides better education? Do Asian markets, for the most part, better understand customer needs?

More questions When will hourly wages in Asia surpass the U.S.? Will people from the U.S. move to Asia for job opportunities in the near future? Is it easier for U.S. companies to do business in Asia, or Asian companies to do business in the U.S.? Will China become the world’s economic superpower?

Conclusion Guessing accuracy was… mixed Mostly bad White Americans aren’t quite as nationalistic as we expected Probably would have gotten more meaningful results if we asked older people

More Conclusion Based on GDP graph, China could overtake US Majority of each subgroup believe that China will replace the US as the world’s economic superpower Majority of each subgroup believe that people in the US will move to China for job opportunities Majority of each subgroup believe that China is pulling ahead in science and technology

Still Concluding Nationalism probably played a role in answers Political socialization Results questionable due to size of sample group Percentages probably didn’t mean very much
