Physics Review: 7 Questions

Directions Split your group of 4 into pairs Every pair needs a white board On the top of your board, write 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

How the game works For every question we ask, you have to decide how much to risk from 1-7. Once you have used that number, you cannot use it again. Study skill: self-assess your confidence level of different skills

Question A: Calculation You see something happen 12 times in 30 seconds. What is the magnitude of the frequency? What is the magnitude of the period?

Question B A ray of light starts in ethyl alcohol, goes through glass, and ends up air. 1) Draw a diagram that shows the wave’s path. 2) At each new medium, label list whether it is going faster or slower.

Question C Can 2 waves have the same frequency but different amplitudes? Explain How do you know a wave has a “high” frequency?

Question D The substance in white “n2” is glass. Predict what the n1 substance is. Explain how you know.

Question E: Superposition You see 2 sets of waves (A and B). Predict which wave will produce the loudest sound. Label each wave using terms from class.

Question F What type of wave is this? How many “complete” waves do you see? What do you call the area with a lot of dots? What do you call the area with hardly any dots?

Question G: Calculation A signal is sent with a wave speed of 83,000 m/s. If the frequency of this wave is 7.2 x 107 hz, what is the period? What is the magnitude of the wavelength?
