Light Waves COS #18
What is light *It is Electromagnetic radiation that you can see.
*Sources of light Reflection is the bouncing of a wave off a surface. For example: your reflection in the mirror- because the light reflects off the surface of a mirror.
*Transmission The passing of light through an object. A n object on one side of a window can be seen because light passes through it on the other side of the window. 3 ways light can pass through an object: 1. Transparent Almost all light that strikes it passes through and forms a clear image 2. Translucent- most light passes through and creates a blurry image 3. Opaque- no light passes through.
*Absorption Transfer of energy by a wav to the medium through with it travels Example: as light tries to pass through the window it feels warm because some of the energy from the light wave is absorbed by the material.
*Reflection The bouncing back off of a surface. *MOST MATTER THAT INTERACTS WITH LIGHT INTERACTS IN A COMBINATION OF THESE THREE WAYS.
*REFRACTION The change in direction of a waves as it changes speed while moving from one medium to the next.
