The Importance of Balancing Equations By: Madison

How to Balance a Equation: Count the atoms of each element in the reactants and the products. Use coefficients; place them in front of the compounds as needed.

Why it's Important: Balancing equations is a important element in our chemistry unit because then we can start to learn about chemical reactions (The part where explosions happen!!). They also need to be balanced so that it follows the law of conservation of mass. This is the stepping stone topic for future science classes.

Effects In Real Life: The use of balancing equations happens all the time in our day to day life. People use their knowledge form learning how to balance chemical equations for their everyday job. It is used when construction workers are taking down a building, they use dynamite to take it down slowly. To do this they have to figure out how much dynamite to use to make sure they don’t blow up more space than just the building. Also when you are given medication, the doctors have to find the right dose by using your body weight to find the right amount. If they give you to much medicine then you could over dose but if you don’t get enough it will not work.

Key Learning Websites: This picture shows examples of how to balance and equation which is good to look back at if you need reassurance. But it also explains in words what you need to do step by step. This website has both ways of explaining for whatever learning style your best with.

This website is a good beginner site to look at if you are just starting to learn about balancing equations. It gives you a game to play which you need to choose the right answer to balance the equation. As you get better you can add more questions top each round and move the difficulty level up as yo0u wish.

Article: This article is a good reminder about the basic understanding about how balancing equations work.
