Parts of the map 1. Title- Tell you what the map is about and what information the map is showing

Parts of the map 2. Legend/Key – Explains what the colors , symbols and lines mean. 3. Symbols- Pictures that mean something. Explained in the Legend/Key

Parts of the map 4. Scale- shows real life distance compared to the maps scale and size. Usually use a ruler to help find the distance

Parts of the map 5. Compass Rose- shows north, south, east, and west

Hemisphere- one of the halves that earth is divided into Hemisphere- one of the halves that earth is divided into. Either north and south or east and west. North/South is divided by the Equator East/West is divided by the Prime Meridian

Parts of the map Latitude- Lines on a map that SHOW north and south.

Parts of the map Longitude- lines on the map that SHOW east and west.

Absolute Location- the exact placement on a map based on the latitude and longitude. Relative Location- the location of one place in relation to another place. (Ex. The mall is south of the school)
