8th Social Studies Syllabus Sanders Rm 207

SOCIAL STUDIES 8 Course Description Welcome to 8th grade Social Studies! Our focus this year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners through a historical lens! Sounds a bit like Language Arts, right? Well, the quality of life you experience now through adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and communicate with others. We will develop these essential skills all while studying the United States and North Carolina history.   Class Expectations Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings – Start the DO Now. Put the proper heading on all papers. Use restroom during designated times. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. Complete all your work & turn it in on time. All JCMS rules and policies shall be observed within the classroom. Cell phones in lockers!

Consequences for not following expectations Per the PBIS Conduct Cards, all students start each class on GREEN (a clean slate). If there is a problematic behavior or situation, the teacher may circle BLUE on a student’s card (a warning). If issues continue, the student may have YELLOW circled (silent lunch issued). Worst case scenarios result in RED being circled and a student is removed from the class and ASD (After School Detention) is assigned.   Website Your homework will be posted on the calendar located on my JCMS WEBSITE. I will also post power points and study guides in the presentations section. We will also learn to use the teams site in office 365. If you are absent, your make up work will be in the make-up folder in the back of the room. It is your responsibility to check the folder for missed assignments.

Late Work Work not completed and turned in by the assigned date is considered late. If a student is absent on the date work is due, the assignment is due the first day the student returns to school. LATE WORK COMPLETED WITHIN 7 DAYS will only receive partial credit (5 points will be deducted each day). LATE WORK HANDED IN AFTER SEVEN DAYS will be subject to a zero.   Grade Weight Test – 35% Quiz/notebook – 25% Classwork/Homework – 10% Projects – 30%
