Equipment PE – Tuesday (Outdoor) and Wednesday (Indoor) Diaries in school everyday- Children to put on Teacher’s desk if there is a message from home. Pencil cases are not essential, however, they may use them during creative work and wet play if they wish Water bottle (labelled) should be sent in daily Could everyone send in an old washed shirt which we can use as overalls when doing art as we do not have as many spare aprons in Juniors (this will help keep your child’s uniform clean and tidy).

School Diaries Spellings will be stuck in the diaries every Friday. Curriculum notes will also be available to the Year 3 WordPress page. These will inform you of what we are covering in the upcoming week and the homework to be completed. The plastic pockets in the back are used for; School ICT information and passwords Year 3/4 Common Exception words Objectives for Reading, Writing and Mathematics

PE Kit: Outdoor Kit for Cold Weather: Trainers, Dark Tracksuit bottoms, house coloured top and dark jumper. Indoor Kit: Shorts, coloured top and pumps

Year 3 Literacy In our Literacy lessons will cover a variety of objectives linked to writing, SPaG, comprehension, handwriting and spelling. Spellings will given out weekly and linked to a spelling objective. Last year the school decided to remove weekly spelling tests as we believe the time taken to test pupils will be more effectively used by increasing the time spent teaching the spelling rules and providing opportunities for application. Therefore, children will be tested on a selection of the words given out at the end of every half term. Every Friday, our Literacy lesson will be a Big Read- using a class text: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Charlotte’s Web.

Year 3 Times Tables Please continue to practise rapid recall of doubles to 20, number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and times tables. This will help your child maximise their learning in class. All children are expected to be fluent with their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables by the end of Year 3. They should also be able to recall the inverse division facts for each table. They are likely to be the first year group to take the new Times Tables assessment at the end of Year 4!

Numeracy Let’s get Learning! On your piece of paper, write a three digit number. We would like you to show your adult how to represent this number in as many ways possible. Think of the ways we have represented (drawn) numbers in class! Remember to include: Base ten, abacus, place value counters, expanded form, part part whole, bar model, tens frames, money and arrow cards.

Literacy- Big Read In Literacy, we have adopted a new strategy of learning for comprehension. Children are expected to begin to answer using A.P.E. A= Answer P= Prove it E = Explain it (we will introduce this section later in the year) It’s your turn! Read the text with your child and answer the comprehension style question using APE.

Example Answer Question: What made Lucy first think something queer was happening inside the wardrobe? The first thing that made Lucy think something queer was happening inside the wardrobe was when the floor felt different under her feet. In the book it says “Then she noticed that there was something crunching under her feet.” A= Answer it P= Prove it

Reading Challenge Year 3’s Reading Challenge is called ‘Authors’. There are over 100 books for your child to choose from and take home to enjoy. As in Infants, the children can achieve a bronze, silver, gold and platinum award. They need to have read books by 3 different authors to achieve Bronze, 6 authors for Silver, 9 authors for Gold and 12 authors for Platinum.

Reading Task Choose a book for your reading challenge. Read the blurb with your parent. Does this sound like something you will be interested in? Answer the following questions. Why did you pick up this book? What do you think is going to happen in this book? What do you think the main character will be like?

Homework… Read at home daily. Learn weekly spellings and the spelling rule. Learn times tables / number bonds as necessary. Regularly use Mathletics and Bug Club. Complete a piece of homework that will be set on Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday.

Let’s have a great year. Thank you for coming Let’s have a great year! Thank you for coming. This PowerPoint will be on WordPress for you to check any information again!
