Worship Ministry Overview -SESSION 2- Worship Ministry Overview Jon Abel
The Foundation Who We Are
Before You Are Anything, You Are HIS See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE FOUNDATION
We Are Shepherds, Not Performers Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve… 1 Peter 5:2 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE FOUNDATION
God Desires Your Heart Above Your Talent For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is completely his. 2 Chronicles 16:9 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE FOUNDATION
The Mission Why We Do It
We Are Called to Serve Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE MISSION
Ignorance Guarantees Ungodliness His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3 …my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Romans 10:2 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE MISSION
Music Is a Means, Not the End Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 SESSION 2 | WORSHIP MINISTRY // THE MISSION
