Roof and Lighting of the ladner outdoor lacrosse box Proposal by Delta Lacrosse Association

Business Case Box lacrosse is officially Canada’s National summer sport. It was invented by the First Nations as early as the 12th century. Having a covered roof with lights will allow the lacrosse community to run the late winter to early spring tryouts, training sessions and evaluations without cancellations due to bad weather. Our lacrosse community co exists in a partnership with South Delta Secondary Lacrosse team and Delta secondary Lacrosse academy.

Business Case A cover and lighting will allow our field lacrosse teams to practice and train rain or shine during those dark, cold, and wet winter months. Last year through the months of September to December there was a combined total of 70 days of rain.

Business Case The proposed cover on the outdoor box will allow more playing hours for our male and female box and field lacrosse players. The lit playing surface will take a load off of Holly Field during the busy Soccer and Field Lacrosse season. A covered outdoor box will also benefit our school programs. The South Delta Secondary lacrosse team could use the box for skills and development of their team.

Business Case The lacrosse academy could also use the covered box as an additional spring training facility. This will allow them to focus on their skills, as there currently is limited space at Delta Secondary. Further more, The covered outdoor box can be used for much more then lacrosse. A cover will provide the opportunity for growth within community fund raising, year end wrap up parties, and much more.

Business Case Overall, having a roof over the outdoor box with lights will provide the boys and girls of delta with more opportunities to remain active and healthy on a more regular basis, while improving skills and development.

Cost The estimated retail cost for a structure similar to the one located in Port Mood is $800,000.

Fundraising Community groups Grants Partnerships with Delta Private Funding

Impacts Due to the already existing footprint of the lacrosse box, there will not be any further impacts to the Ladner Leisure Centre or the Delta Gymnastic parking lots and surrounding areas.

Conclusion In closing, we had over 100 volunteers help renovate the Ladner outdoor box ten years ago. Adding the roof and lights will bring closure to our long term plan and vision for keeping players active year round.
