Verbs A verb expresses an: action, a condition, or a state of being. The two main types of verbs are action verbs and linking verbs

Action Verbs An action verb expresses action. The action may be physical or mental. The student _______________ into class. (physical) The student _______________ in class. (mental)

Linking Verbs A linking verb links the subject of a sentence to some word in the predicate. There are two groups of linking verbs: forms of to be, and verbs that express condition.

AUXILIARY Verbs Auxiliary verbs, also called helping verbs, are combined with verbs to form verb phrases.

Prepositions A preposition shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in a sentence. The most common relationships expressed are location and condition.

Prepositions Prepositions very rarely stand alone, but are most often followed by a Prepositional Phrase.

Prepositional Phrases A Prepositional Phrase consists of a preposition, the object of the preposition, and any modifiers of the object found between. The object of a preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition.
