KC Academy 2010 Fall Update The staff of the Academy have trained just over 410 men this past fall, which includes men from 4 new councils, 3 one on one, hour long training sessions and one session in Spanish. Attendees include 12 District Deputy's, 15 State Elected or Selected officers, 40 Grand Knights, 47 Deputy Grand Knights, 17 F.S.'s and the remaining are made up of the remaining various council Officers. Feed back has been very positive with council asking for one on one training

Academy Staff Frank Schwartz Jr. Academy Director Alexander Grudzinski Belleville Diocese Eugene Giudice Chicago Diocese John Crigler Chicago Diocese Ted Glaser Chicago Diocese Jerry Bevignani Joliet Diocese Chris Richert Springfield Diocese William Dekowski Peoria Diocese Sean Morgan Rockford Diocese Review course objectives with participants. Emphasis that what will be talked about here are only words and ideas. They must be brought to their fulfillment in the actions of council officers and members. Stress to the participants that many of the ideas presented will require change and change takes time and often will have resistance as a part of it. Remind participants that resistance can be overcome in a way that is positive as opposed to trying to overcome resistance by force.

Guidance Objectives To guide Councils officers and members to be the best they can be, by offering over 12 different topics of training and guidance classes.

Guiding of Council Leadership Includes Guiding Council leadership to work as a team with a positive attitude How to effectively increase communications and information and making sure it is shared with all the members on a timely basis Succession planning There is more detailed coverage of teamwork and leadership in a separate training module.

Who should attend the training sessions. Elected Council Officers – Grand Knight Deputy Grand Knight Trustees (3) Chancellor Recorder Treasurer Advocate Warden, Inside Guard, Outside Guard Each officer’s duties will be discussed in more detail.

Guidance includes Council Officer Duties such as Who files and when reports should be filed. Retention process from start to finish The benefits of an admission committee Time commitments Who can they turn to in times of need or uncertainty

Why Should I hold an Academy in my District 92 % of Councils who attend the training sessions have at least a plus 1 or up to 50% of membership goal already this year. Council who attend have increased their programming as well as their membership. 88 % of Council who attend, have a planning calendar and budget by the next training class When your councils are successful, your job as friend, mentor and guide becomes not only easier but more fun! 97 % of Council who attend the training classes file forms and audits on time. 99% of the men who have attended the training know how and why the chamber is to be set up i.e. the importance of our ceremonials They understand that being a strong right arm of the church is more than just words, it is putting those words into action.

How can you set-up one of these guidance classes Contact one of the Diocesan Academy staff members see your directory for their information. Contact your Chapter President Work with your diocesan leadership teams Just ask one of us after the meeting or sometime this weekend. Remind participants about statement in the Installation of Officers’ ceremony which states “the base of the pyramid supports the top”. Remind participants that it is the Grand Knight who not only executes his duties but sets a tone for the rest of the officers and council to follow. The Grand Knight is to make sure that things get done properly, not to do them himself. When it comes to council activities, the Grand Knight should have the largest circle of influence and it is of paramount importance that he has a clear vision of what he wants the council to be and consequently, use his power of influence to make that vision come true. Remind the participants that the District Deputy is the first person a Grand Knight can turn to with question or when he needs assistance.
