Alabama Course of Study Explain how artifacts and other archaeological findings provide evidence of the nature and movement of prehistoric groups of people. Identify terms used to describe characteristics of early societies and family structures.

Today’s Learning Targets I will be able to use the academic vocabulary of this region and time appropriately. I will be able to locate the significant map features of Africa on a map. I will be able to describe how humans’ way of living changed as they interacted and adapted.

Warm-up Questions What were early gods most likely associated with? The elements During what time period did humans begin to build permanent homes? Neolithic Era Which continent was settled last by humans? How were humans able to migrate from Asia to North America? What was the leading factor in why so many different cultures evolved around the world?

Reading Check Questions What was one effect of the switch to farming? People stopped moving around to find food, populations grew with better control of food production, and towns developed in some areas.

Reading Check Questions How did farming contribute to the growth of towns? Because people stayed in one place to control food production, towns developed.

The Neolithic Era What marks the beginning of the Neolithic Era? Climate warming – fine tools developed – people started growing their own food – plants and animals were domesticated – religions formed – megaliths were made to worship – early gods associated with the elements.

Today’s Learning Targets I can use the academic vocabulary of this region and time appropriately. I can locate the significant map features of Africa on a map. I can describe how humans’ way of living changed as they interacted and adapted.
