High School Advantages

Advantages of taking HS courses in MS Activity with Head Counselor, Mrs. Boyett, explaining the HS four year plan. Five High School EOCs PAP classes: 5 bonus points added to final GPA average for course taken. Earn high school credit only, no college credit. AP classes: 8 bonus points added to final GPA average for course taken. Earn high school credit and given a chance to take AP test for college credit. Must earn 3 - 5 on AP test to receive college credit.

Late Work Policy A 15 point deduction will be attached to the assignment . The last day to submit late work is last Wednesday of the current six-weeks grading period.

Reteach/Retest Policy 1.The student must first attend tutoring with the teacher to receive clarity on the concepts they missed. This is the "reteach." 2. The assignment can then be resubmitted or the test can be retaken with a 10 point penalty deduction. This is the "retest." 3. The last day to resubmit an assignment or retake a test is the last Wednesday of the current six-weeks grading period. Grades from previous grading periods cannot be changed.

Attendance Attendance Recovery By state law, students may not be absent for more than 18 days to receive high school credit. Students who are at 9 or more absences at semester will receive a warning notice. Attendance Recovery One 45 minute session with teacher = One makeup class Cannot “bank” AR time Can be done with any HS credit teacher

Spanish Class

Online: https://mynisd.nisd.net Textbook Access Online: https://mynisd.nisd.net *Same website for Social Studies and Math classes Teachers regular assign review activities for the students to do. They are able to access these at any time.

Semester and Final Exams Exams are administered in the same manner as in high school and adequate time is given for the exam. Exams are composed of separate sections including: writing, speaking and multiple choice (vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension).

Duolingo -Students are assigned weekly lessons that can be done on computer or on the phone. -There is a FREE Duolingo app. Consistent: Learning for 10 minutes daily is better compared when you cram for 1 hour, once or twice a week.

Language Learning Tips -Make flashcards for vocabulary words and verbs. -Be consistent. -Form a study group with other Spanish students. -Attend tutoring. -Redo class or online activities for extra practice. -Listen to music in Spanish -Watch movies in Spanish with subtitles in English. Algebra/Geometry Along with semester exams, Algebra students will take an End of Course (EOC) Exam in May. In order for students to receive credit for the class, they must : Receive a passing score on the EOC. Final Average must be passing. Student who pass the course, but want to raise their GPA, may take the same course again the following year to earn a higher GPA. Students who fail the course must take the class again, but the failing GPA will count in their overall class rank.

Art 1HS & Advanced HS Art This is the first course in high school. It is concept- based and designed to build on the student's previous introductions and experiences with various art forms. Any 8th grader without any art experience can take this class for high school credit. *Students must meet both attendance and academic requirements to receive high school credit.
