The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) defines engineering: “the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.”

Common Traits of Good Engineers Skill set and methodology to problem solving ‘Creativity for Logical Thinkers’ that helps in making effective use of their knowledge base. Self motivated. Keen to learn about Emerging technologies (Emerging technologies are those which represent new and significant developments within a field). Logical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting Quick thinking

Common Traits of Good Engineers Calm under high pressure situations. Good oral and written business communications, negotiation and time management skills. Leadership skills - Organizing and motivating a group of engineers. Drawing skills - To draw graphical workflow diagrams or CAD schematic drawings. Training and mentoring skills - To train and mentor junior or fellow engineers or operational staff.

Main Engineering Disciplines Civil Engineering. Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Mechanical Engineering. Architectural Engineering. Aerospace Engineering. Biomedical Engineering. Chemical Engineering.

Main Engineering Disciplines Environmental Engineering. Manufacturing Engineering. Petroleum Engineering. Nuclear Engineering. Mining Engineering. Materials Engineering.

Major Types of Engineering at UNIVERSITY of NIZWA Chemical: Chemical Engineering Program. Petrochemical Engineering Program. Civil: Environmental Engineering. Civil Engineering (Geotechnical , Structural Engineering). Electrical: Computer Engineering. Electrical Engineering. Architecture: Interior Design Engineering. Architectural Engineering.

Engineering Organizations 1. Accreditation Board of Engineering: Examines the credentials of the engineering program’s faculty, curricular content, facilities, and admission standards before granting accreditation. 2. Engineering Association: Most engineering degrees are granted in civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical and architectural engineering. 3. Professional Engineering organization: Assignments 23 – 24: 1.1; 1.2; 1.9; 1.10; 1.13; 1.14

Engineering Technology Engineering vs. engineering technology Engineers apply scientific concepts to develop solutions to real world problems. Their job is more theoretical, involving the design of new products such as a robot that will be used in an auto manufacturing plant. Engineers require more theoretical, scientific and mathematical knowledge.

Engineering Technology Engineering vs. engineering technology Engineering Technology programs prepare students for practical design and production work. Graduates of Engineering Technology programs may get jobs similar to those obtained by Engineers. Technicians install and maintain products, providing a wide range of services: implementation of the design, testing, calibration and supervision of its operation.

Be always motivated and confident My Advices to you……. Be always motivated and confident Be honest, serious, and goal oriented Be inquisitive and proactive Don’t waste your time with nonsense Rely on text books not on class notes Keep improving your English language Be a Leader: decide what you want to be, not let someone else decide for you. Look for future market: foresee demand for different engineers at the time when you graduate (three or five years from now) فضولي وسباق

Chapter Two Preparing for an Engineering Career 2.1 Introduction 2.2 Transition from High School to College 2.3 Budgeting Your Time 2.4 Daily Studying and Preparation 2.5 Get Involved with an Engineering Organization 2.6 Your Graduation Plan 2.7 Other Considerations

Transition from High School to College 5% of student graduate in US with B.S. are engineer. Taught to look differently than other people. How to ask questions to find how things made, how things work, and how to improve things. How to design something from scratch, and how take an idea from paper to reality build something. Some of you may be in the first year. Transition from high school to college may be a big step. Keep in mind what you do for next five years will effect you for the rest of your life.

Teaching Learning

Budgeting Your Time

Daily Studying and Preparation You start studying and preparing from the very first day of class. Attend your classes regularly. Get help right away. Take good notes. Select a good study place. Form study groups. Prepare for examination.

Involved with an Engineering Organization Many reasons to join an engineering organization: - Networking and participation in tours. - Listening to technical guest speaker. - Participate in design competitions. - Learning opportunities through short courses. Websites of various engineering organizations: The primary purpose of these professional engineering organization is to offer: - Conduct conferences and meetings. - Publish technical journals, books, report, etc. - Offer short training courses. - Provide a networking mechanism.

Your Graduation Plan Meet with your advisor to understand what the requirements are for admission to the college and the specific programs. Sit down with advisor and plan your graduation. Make sure you understand the prerequisites for each course and in which semester is offered; a program flowchart will be quite useful. For the student studying diploma and planning to transfer to Bachelor later, they should learn about the transfer policies and requirements.

Other Considerations help those in need in your community. Doing Volunteer work: volunteer for a few hours a week to help those in need in your community. Vote in local and national elections: Exercise your right to vote, be active in your local state. Get to know your classmates: to have someone to contact to find out what you missed. Get to know an upper-division engineering student: Can provide you with valuable information about their engineering education experience and campus social issues.
