US v Nixon BY Megan and Ari

Background about the case Nixon believed that he was protected from the writ ordering a person to go to court claiming executive privilege. Which is the right to withhold information from other government branches to preserve/maintain communications. The other branches and the people didn’t like that. The US was trying to decide if that is legal or not. There was two sides US v NIXON.

What is the essential question The essential question is , is the president right to safeguard certain information using his executive privilege confidentiality power entirely immune from judicial review?

What Are some constitutional principles There is only one principle related to this case and it is Article 2 which is the executive branch. Nixon was given the power for the executive branch and disobeyed it.

What is the outcome !! The outcome is that, no he is not allowed to do executive privileges. The court said there is limited executive privileges in certain areas but it gave fundamental demands of due process of law in the fair administration of justice. So the president must obey the rules.

Why did it impact society The case impacted society because now everyone knows that using executive privilege to hide illegal choices is not allowed and if you do it then there will be consequence. It is also a landmark because it is very important. If you do not follow the rules than you will get kicked out of office.
