PFC Web Site: http://engineering.purdue.edu/pfc e-mail to : J.P. Allain: allain@purdue.edu We will post presentations from this meeting

Communication “Physical” Meeting – 1/year: next- 2011 tbd. Steering Committee conference calls – monthly Special Topic conference calls – as needed

Programmatic issues, work areas, priorities ITER/enabling-technologies (solid materials) ~90% --Focus on All-Metal plasma facing components --Experiments at DIII-D, PISCES, CMOD, US Lab facilities (SNL, UIUC, MIT, etc.) --Modeling/analysis (plasma edge/sol, sputter erosion, ELM etc. erosion, mixed-materials, etc.) Liquid lithium ~10% --NSTX Liquid Lithium Divertor, Lab work, other liquid metals (Sn, Ga) JET, other international devices DEMO, other future device PFC studies

Effort defined by Materials 7

Effort defined by Devices 8

Programmatic issues contd. Coordinate PFC Program with other US groups/activities Burning Plasma Organization subgroups e.g. tritium issues, diagnostic mirrors FNSF Edge Physics Group Materials Group FESAC FSP Etc.

Challenges ReNeW: “Taming the Plasma Interface”– Challenges identified. Our PFC Community Response. Plasma facing component performance is a critical issue for fusion--work underfunded by ~X3 ITER full power D-T plasma in 18 years--motivation issue.
