Use of Hub Dispensing Model for Serial Rx Assembly B A N N E R M A N ` S P h a r m a c y Mark Feeney Bannerman’s Pharmacy 171 Saracen Street Glasgow G22 5JL Aim To shift significant volume of repeat medicine assembly to the Bannerman’s Hub Pharmacy to allow patient facing teams to focus on person centred care. Plan 1)Install hub area in central pharmacy with assistance from the Scottish Government 2)Install spoke and hub IT solution using barcode scanning accuracy checking 3)Engage with NHS Boards, GP Practices and Prescribing Support Pharmacists to identify suitable patients for CMS serial Rx’s 4)Hub significant volume of Rx’s through central pharmacy 5) Monitor patient centred service provision at the spoke pharmacies Do Initial efforts to move patients onto serial Rx’s proved challenging depending on the agreed model of implementation with local stakeholders. NHS Forth Valley implemented a practice led model which has led to a large initial increase in serial prescribing. Community Pharmacy led model in GG+C has led to sporadic increase in serial RX’s. Fully functioning hub installed with wholesale accounts opened. Skilled hub team of 1 Pharmacist (0.4 WTE), 1 Accuracy Checking Technician (0.2 WTE) and 1 NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Assistant (0.1) allocated to the hub.

Study Hub Volume 290 Patients switched to serial Rx in 5 pharmacies across 2 Health Boards Average of 120 dispensing incidents sent for central assembly per week Stock value through central dispensing approx £2,800 per month The volume of dispensing is limited to the number of serial Rx patients. Most GP surgeries appear to need ongoing support Patient Facing Services Patient facing core service delivery has increased. Registration numbers shown below More opportunities to interact with patients Act Initial results show hub dispensing can help enable the delivery of more patient facing services More engagement with stakeholders at HSCP level and NHS Board level Software development to increase the type of dispensing incidents that can be centrally dispensed Acknowledgements Lynn Mcdermott ACT Bannerman’s Pharmacy Tracey Carruthers Dispensing Assistant Bannerman’s Pharmacy Spoke Pharmacy Teams Bannerman’s Pharmacy Scottish Government Evaluation of Automated Technology Group NHS Forth Valley NHS GG+C
