Renaissance Drama

The Renaissance Period: Over two centuries long, dominating in the 15th and 16th centuries. The works that appeared during this time period were heroic and exaggerated, which included great tragedies that were filled with violence and love.

One noted playwright was William Shakespeare.

His plays were produced in the famous Globe Theater.

The Globe Theater: Constructed in 1599 Shaped like an octagon Burned down in 1613 Rebuilt in 1614, but destroyed 30 years later by the Puritans

The Globe Theater Had a 2000 person capacity. Tickets were 1 cent. The “Pit” was where the “poor” audience stood.
