Cell Cycle Which stage in the cell cycle does the cell grow and carry out normal functions ? Which stage in the cell cycle starts combining parts to make a whole ; the cell makes a copy of its nuclear DNA This stage in interphase is a critical checkpoint , the cell has additional growth , but everything must be in order before proceeding to the M stage . G1; S; G2
Photosynthesis vs. Cellular Resp. Get out Double Bubble Map Take out a piece of paper We are going to summarize our map using at least 5 sentences. Compare and contrast the two processes

Chromosome Structure I am a continuous thread of DNA carrying numerous genes . The human body cells carry 46 of these each. During interphase I look like spaghetti but get condensed during mitosis . What Am I ? During the spaghetti stage my DNA is loose because I hang out with the histones (proteins) making me CHROMATIN. However, during the S stage the chromosome is duplicated . I have a sister . What am I ? I am the region that keeps the sisters together. My prefix means “end” . I am composed of repeating nucleotides . I prevent the ends of chromosomes from accidently attaching to each other- to prevent loss of genes. 1 chromosome 2. chromatid 3. centromere 4 . Telomere

Phases (appearance) of mitosis My prefix means “ back “ . Chromatids separate and move ‘back” to opposite sides of the cell. My prefix means “before” . Nuclear envelope breaks down. , nucleolus disappears. Spindle fibers are formed. My prefix means “ end” – complete set of chromosomes formed ; nuclear membranes are formed My prefix means “ after “ –the centromere of the chromosome is attached to the spindle fibers in the middle of the cell. A. Anaphase B. prophase C. telophase D metaphase

My prefix means “ cell” This is part of the cell cycle where the cytoplasm divides between two daughter cells with identical nuclei . What am I ? In animals there is pinching in the middle that splits the two cells apart. In plants , a cell plate is built that divides the cell into daughter cells. . cytokinesis
Bellringer Friday March 14, 2014 How are sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction different from each other? A. sexual reproduction requires two parents and asexual reproduction requires only one parent B. asexual reproduction requires two parents and sexual reproduction requires only one parent C. mutation rates are lower in sexual reproduction than in asexual reproduction D. asexual reproduction occurs only in multicellular organisms A
