DEFINING A NEW PROJECT Select New Project from Project menu to create a new project File.
Enter 4 characters Project code Enter 4 characters Project code. Build-Master later creates files for various floors by appending floor codes to it . Enter no. of levels, Default storey height and Project title then click ok.
A line sketch showing the floor levels ,floor names and Default storey height appears on the screen.
Select Modify Project from Project menu to change the storey height for Plinth level.
Select Plinth from the list of floors and click on Modify.
Change Storey height to desired value and click OK.
Again the line sketch with modified height for the Plinth floor is displayed.

INPUT PLAN Now choose Select Floor from the floor menu to enter the Plan.
Select ABCD-TYP from the list of floors.
Select Input Plan from the Floor menu to draw the Plan for the selected floor.
A graphical editor as shown here will be displayed.
Select Mesh option from the Draw menu.
Mesh Data dialog box will appear. The spacing in X and Y directions are not same, hence select New Random from the Spacing Type and click on Random Mesh.
The dialog box for entering X grid values will appear now. X-grids are Lines parallel to Y-axis and cutting X axis. Y grids are Lines parallel to X axis and cutting Y axis.
Enter the X values by using Add Row button. No. of X values is equal to no. of X grids.
After entering values for all X grids, click on Save and then OK.
Now Dialog box for entering Y values will appear.
Similarly enter Y values using Add Row button. After entering all values for Y grids click on Save and then OK.
A mesh of X and Y grid lines will appear on the screen.
Now select Erase from the Edit menu to carve the desired plan by deleting unwanted lines.
Now select Lines to be deleted using the Pick Box.
A bigger or smaller view can be seen by using Zoom option with the right click of the mouse.
Draw a parallel line to the selected line using Offset Line option.
Now draw the desired lines using Draw--> line option.
Thus Plan is carved as desired. Now the floor plan is a line sketch with Beam positions according to the Architectural drawing.
Now select Support-->Column from the Draw menu to place the columns at respective positions.
Select column positions using the Pick box.
Now the plan is complete, with beam positions and Column positions according to the Architectural Drawing. Buildmaster detects the Beams and Slabs from this line sketch drawn.
Select MakeData option from the main menu to convert graphical sketch into numeric data.
Dialog box for Default data will appear.Click Ok.
No. of beams,slabs ,columns and Nodes are generated by the Program.
The drawing with Beam nos, slab nos and column nos is displayed.
This completes the input for the typical floor Plan This completes the input for the typical floor Plan. Select Close from the File menu. The 3-D Space frame Model is generated from this single line plan.
The Workspace and Run Log can be switched off by clicking on those options from the View menu. A bigger screen for editing the Plan can be displayed using this option.

EDIT PLAN DATA Select Edit Plan Data from the Floor menu.
Select Data units from the Settings menu.
Now Select Column Data-->Column Size from the Edit menu.
Select the column for which these values are to be specified Select the column for which these values are to be specified. Enter the column size ,then Then click on Change.
To specify the Column flush, Select that option from Column Data of Edit menu.
Select the columns for which Flush is to be specified, select the Flush position then click on Change.
Select Beam Data from Edit menu.
The Beam size can be selected from the list of Standard Sections by clicking on Std.list button. Select the beam size then click on Assign.
Select the Beam for selected size then Click on Change.
Now select Slab Data from the Edit menu. Select the option Spanning.
Select the slab for which Spanning is to be specified using the Pick box.
Select the option from the Spanning list then click on Change.
Now select Sunk Slab option from the Slab Data.
Select the Slab which is sunken Select the Slab which is sunken. Then enter the sunk Depth and click on Change.
Sunken slabs are defined by showing a square around the Slab numbers.
Again Select Beam Data from the Edit menu to enter Sunk depth for the mid-landing beam for the Staircase.
Select the Beam, enter the sunk depth then click on Change.
Select Thk Load option from Slab Data to change the thickness and Load for the Staircase slab.
Select the slab, enter values as shown and click on Change.
Now select Wall Types from the Edit menu.
Select Wall Type, Enter Wall Data for selected type then use Add button to add more wall types.
Other Wall Types can be selected from the Standard List .
Add wall type of 100mm thk RCC wall for the Parapet wall of Balcony.
Now select Wall Data from the Edit menu.
Select the beam for which Wall type is to be specified Select the beam for which Wall type is to be specified. Select the type of wall then click on Change.
Select Wall Data from the ModifyARC to modify Wall position for the Balcony Parapet wall.
Change the wall positions for the walls on Balcony beams and click OK.
This completes the editing of Plan Data, hence Save the file and then Close.
Change Floor Description to Typical floor and Click OK
By selecting Plan Drawing option from the Floor menu, the numerical and graphical data entered is converted in various drawings stored in DXF format.

Select Architectural Plan from the Plan Drawing option of the Floor menu to view Architectural drawing.

GRID ANALYSIS Now select Create Data File from Grid Analysis option of the Floor menu to create file for Grid Analysis.
Select the options as shown and click OK.
A grid analysis Data file for Typical floor is created by the Program.
Select Plot Loading Diagram From Floor--> Grid Analysis menu.
A loading diagram is displayed.
Select Carry out Analysis option from Grid Analysis to carry out Analysis for the Typical floor.
Grid analysis output file for the Typical floor is created.
Grid Analysis results are displayed now.
Bending Moment, Shear Force and Deflection Diagrams can be seen using Plot BMD/SFD/DFD option from Floor-->Grid Analysis menu.
Select Diagram type as Deflection and click OK.

COPYING FLOOR Now copy plan for the Typical floor using Copy Floor option from the Utilities menu.
Select the source floor and the destination floor Select the source floor and the destination floor. Select All Data files and click on Copy.
Select Input Plan from the Floor menu to make changes in the Typical floor plan for the Plinth level.
Delete unwanted lines by selecting those lines and then using Erase option from the Draw menu.
Select Edit Plan Data from the Floor menu to edit Wall data and Slab data for Plinth Level.
Select No Wall for all the beams and click on Change.
Make all slabs sunken to remove the Flange effect for Beams at the Plinth level.
Select all slabs except Staircase Select all slabs except Staircase. Enter the Slab thickness,Dead load, Live load values as shown and click on Change.
See RCC and Architectural Plan drawings for the changed Plan at Plinth level by selecting Plan Drawings option from Floor menu.
Similarly create Data file for Grid Analysis by selecting that option from Floor menu.
Now Select Grid Analysis-->Carry Out Analysis from the Floor menu to carry out analysis at the Plinth level.
Grid Analysis results are displayed .
Again select Copy Floor from the Utilities menu to copy Typical plan to Roof level.
Select the source floor and the destination floor Select the source floor and the destination floor. Select All Data files and click on Copy.
Again select Input Plan from the Floor menu to make changes in the copied plan for Roof level plan.
A column is added using Draw-->support option.
Select Column Data-->Column Size option from the Edit menu to specify size for the added column.
Select Wall Data from Edit menu to enter wall data for the beams.
Select all interior beams, select No wall from Wall types, then click on Change.
Select all Outer beams,select Parapet wall from Wall Types and then click on Change.
Select Slab Sunk option from Edit-->Slab Data.
Remove the sunk for selected slabs by entering Sunk Depth 0.
See RCC and Architectural Plan drawings for the changed Plan at Roof level by selecting Plan Drawings option from Floor menu.
Create Data file for Grid Analysis by selecting that option from Floor menu.
Select Carry out Analysis option from Grid Analysis to carry out Analysis for the Roof floor.
Grid Analysis results are displayed.
Select Modify Project from the Floor menu.
Select 4th Floor from the list of floors.
Change Floor Description to 4th Floor and click on OK.
Select Copy Floor from the Utilities menu.
Select the source floor and the destination floor Select the source floor and the destination floor. Select All Data files and click on Copy.
Select Edit Plan Data from the Floor menu to edit Plan data for the 4th floor.
Select Wall Type for selected beams and click on Change.
Create Data file for Grid Analysis using that option from the Floor menu.
Select Grid Analysis--> Carry out Analysis from the floor menu to carry out analysis for 4th floor.
Different Windows can be viewed simultaneously by selecting Tile Vertically from the Window menu.
Select Typical floor again to enter the Door/Window data for Estimation of Quantities.
Select Edit Plan Data from the Floor menu.
Select Door Types from the Edit menu.
Click on Add button to add door types.
Enter Width,Height Frame thickness, Rate as shown and click on OK.
Similarly add more Door Types.
Now select Window Types from the Edit menu.
Add Window Types using Add button.
Enter Height, Width etc and click on OK.
Similarly add more types of Windows.
Now select Opening Types from Edit menu.
Select opening using Add button,enter data for the opening and click on OK.
Select Door/Window Data from Edit menu.
Select the Beam for which Door/Window data is to be entered,and click on Add.
Select Opening type as Window, Position of window,Distance and Position of Chajja then click on OK.
Similarly enter Door/Window data for all the beams.
Architectural Plan with Doors and Windows at respective positions , is displayed.
Select Flooring Types from the Edit menu.
Add floor Types by using Add button.
Select Room Types from Edit menu.
Assign flooring type to the Room Type by using Add button.
Select the Room Type, Flooring Type and click OK.
Select Room Data from Edit menu.
Select the Slab,then select respective Flooring Type and Room Type from the List. Then click on Change.
Now select Save and then Close option from the File menu.
Select Reanalyze All Floors option from the Tools menu to perform Grid Analysis for all the floors using changed data.

FRAME ANALYSIS Select Frame Analysis Parameters from the Frames menu.
Select Space Frame Idealization option. Select other parameters as shown and click on Load Combinations.
Select Horizontal Loads as shown and click on Earthquake Load Data.
Now Frame Analysis dialog box appears. Click on Start.
Select Frame Analysis Results--> Plot loading Diagram option from Frames menu.
Change Max. Plot Ordinate to 3.0 then click on OK.
Select 3D View option from the list of planes.
The Space frame with loading is displayed. Isometric view can be seen by selecting View Point with the right click of the mouse.
Select Layer option with the right click of the mouse and switch off some layers to view the Loading diagram properly.
Select View Analysis Report from Frames menu to view the Report.
Select Plot BMD/SFD/DFD option from Frame Analysis Results.
Select Bending Moment option, enter Maximum plot ordinate and click OK..
Select XZ Plane cutting Y axis and distance of plane 5 Select XZ Plane cutting Y axis and distance of plane 5.0 to view XZ section at 1st floor level.
B.M. Diagram for 1st floor plan is displayed.
Again select Plot BMD/SFD/DFD option to view Deflection Diagram, Bending Moment Diagram and Shear Force Diagram resp. for the entire frame.

R.C.C. DESIGN Select RCC Design--> Beam from the Floor menu to carry out R.C.C. design.
Select Design all Beams Automatically option and click on OK.
Select Data as shown and click OK.
Select RCC Parameters as shown and click OK.
Click on Start to carry out RCC Design.
RCC Design output for Beams is displayed.
Now select Slab option from RCC Design submenu to carry out Design of Slabs.
Click on Start to carry out RCC Design of Slabs.
RCC Design output for Slabs is displayed.
Similarly carry out RCC Design for columns and Footings also.
RCC Design output for columns is displayed.
Enter design parameters as shown and click OK.
Enter Safe Bearing capacity of soil , PCC parameters and click OK.
RCC Design output for Footings is displayed.
Foundation Plan can be viewed now by selecting that option from Plan Drawings.
Overlapping footings can be redesigned by selecting Interactive Design option from RCC Design and changing the orientation or size of column. Alternatively, combined Footing can be designed by running Footcomb program separately.

INTERACTIVE DESIGN Beams/Slabs can be redesigned individually by interactive design option. Select RCC Design-->Beam option from the floor menu.
Select Design all Beams interactively option here.
Select the Beam which is to be redesigned interactively.
Input Data, Design output and Elevation of the selected Beam is displayed.
To redesign the Beam any option from the Edit menu can be selected and data can be modified. Changes made interactively are stored again in Database and Schedule.
Schedule for Beams,Slabs,Columns and Footings can be modified by selecting Modify Schedule option from the Floor menu. Select Beam option.
Beam schedule is displayed with group nos on the left side and all the groups with the parameters on the right side.
Beams with identical design parameters are automatically grouped when designed by Buildmaster. A particular beam can be moved manually by drag and drop,I.e. by clicking on the Beam name and dragging it to another group.
The beams can be regrouped by selecting Regroup button. Percentage variations can be changed here to make lesser no. of groups in the schedule.
Change Percentage variation to 30%. Program will find the beam with largest size and maximum steel. Out of the remaining beams,whosoever size and steel is upto 30% less, those beams will be grouped with that beam. Then again the biggest beam from the remaining beams found out and same procedure is repeated.

All Text and Drawing Files can be viewed by using View Text/Html File option from the Utilities menu.
Similarly select Estimate-->Column &Footing Quantities from the Floor menu for calculation of columns &footings Quantities.
Quantities for Footings and Columns are displayed.
Select Estimate-->Architectural Quantities option again to calculate Architectural Quantities.
Abstract of Quantities and Grand total for the cost of floor is displayed.
With this option,separate output files can be created in which Quantities are stored in conventional L-B-D Format.
