OdaStat-G – Getting Started with the OdaLog Type L2

Interfacing with the OdaLog Type L2 OdaStat-G interfaces and communicates with the OdaLog Type L2 through a Digitalk IrDA adapter that plugs into the USB port of a PC OdaStat-G can use the Digitalk IrDA adapter to download data from the OdaLog Type L2 or upload hardware configuration settings or “Instrument Parameters” to the odalog Before the Digitalk IrDA USB adapter can be used successfully by OdaStat-G suitable device drivers must be installed on the same PC as OdaStat-G

Installation Insert the OdaStat-G Installation Disk in a CD Drive The “index.html” file from the CD should automatically open in a web browser program (e.g.Internet Explorer) If IrDA adapter device drivers haven’t been installed click on “CLICK TO INSTALL IrDA Device Drivers” If the Welcome Page does not appear, just explore the contents of the CD in “My Computer” and click on OdaStatsetup.exe

Driver Installation Click under the picture of the IrDA device to be used to communicate with the OdaLog. Follow the instructions in each window of the driver installation progams. For more information check the OdaStat-G Installation Procedure.doc file on the installation CD.

Connecting to an OdaLog L2 Plug in the lead of the IrDA device into the USB port of your PC Get the OdaLog in IrDA mode by holding down the button until “IrDA” is displayed on the LCD (wait for animation to load)

Connecting to OdaStat-G Check that OdaLog Type L2/RTx is selected in the menu in the top right hand corner of the OdaStat-G Start Page

Connecting to an OdaLog L2 Place the IrDA device against the OdaLog Type L2 in the displayed position When OdaStat-G detects the OdaLog L2 the serial number of the OdaLog will be displayed in green lettering at the centre of the Start Page

Troubleshooting the IrDA Device The user can check that the IrDA device driver has been installed correctly through the “Device Manager” program in Windows. This can be found by clicking on Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager. The IrDA device will be listed if the driver has been installed and will be detected by OdaStat-G

Downloading Logged Data from an OdaLog L2 via the IrDA Adapter Click on the “Download Log” button A progress bar will appear at the top of the Start Page while the download is completed A graph will appear when download is complete

Changing Instrument Parameters for an OdaLog Type L2 via the IrDA Adapter Return to Start Page by clicking on the “house” shaped icon. Click on the “Instrument Parameters” button. The Instrument Parameters dialog box for the connected OdaLog will appear

OdaLog Type L2 Instrument Parameters These include Logging Interval, Temperature Units, Calibration Dates, and Memory Overwrite Settings

OdaLog Type L2 Instrument Parameter – File Operations Once downloaded through the IrDA adapter, Instrument Parameters can be stored in a configuration (*.cfg) file Alternatively configuration changes can be loaded from a configuration (*.cfg) file and uploaded to the OdaLog L2 or RTx using the IrDA adapter The default folder for .cfg files is C:\OdaStat-G\cfgfiles Once loaded from a file the configuration can be loaded onto an OdaLog using the IrDA device

Data Files Four formats - .olg, .oda, .mlg, .csv An ODA file is created in C:\OdaStat-G\odafiles folder when data is dowloaded from the OdaLog OLG files are created for each session of data when the ODA files are opened, and are automatically saved in C:\OdaStat-G\olgfiles MLG files can be created by the user after they have changed the format of the data using OdaStat-G (e.g. joined sessions together) Data can be exported to a CSV (comma separated values) file so it can be viewed or analysed using Microsoft Excel

Session Selector A session is recorded within the data stored on the OdaLog when the user starts and stops the logging function. The “Session Selector” displays the sessions and allows the user to select a session for graphing. The sessions can also be joined together to create one graph and saved as a .mlg file

Graphing A graph appears automatically when data has been downloaded. Many features of the graph can be altered through the Graph Options and Style Menus. These include the colours of the traces and the format of the axes. Labels can also be inserted on the graph to highlight significant data. Graphs can also be exported to a jpeg (*.jpg) picture file.

HELP! OdaStat-G includes a recently updated help file with more detailed descriptions of the OdaStat-G features The help file is displayed by clicking “OdaStat Application Help” in the “Help” menu Also check the OdaStat – G User Manual located on the OdaStat-G Installation CD for further information
