Which project type is best for my chosen NHD topic and skill set? Homework: NHD Project Category Proposal by end of class! Do Now: Fill in your planner. Take a “NHD Project Category Proposal” from the center of your table and put your name on it! Today: Wednesday 12/7/16 Essential Question: Which project type is best for my chosen NHD topic and skill set?

Project Categories for NHD: Website Exhibit Research Paper Documentary Performance (Skit)

Let’s take a look at the options… Start @ 2:07 – 6:13

Category: Website For those who love technology! The key to the website category is a strong historical argument and evidence supported by clear organization, simple navigation tools, and interactivity without glitz. Students creating a website must build their site using the NHD Website Editor, Weebly.

Category: Exhibit For the visual student (a.k.a. the “doodler”)! Exhibits are visual representations of your research and analysis. Similar to an exhibit in a museum. To be successful, an exhibit must create an effective balance between visual interest and historical explanation.

Category: Research Paper For the literary student (those who love to read & write)! You will create a detailed (1500-2500 words) research paper on your topic. A paper is a highly personal and individual effort, and if you prefer to work alone this may be the category for you. No partners/groups for this category! Papers depend almost entirely on words to tell the story, and you can usually include more information in a paper than in some of the other categories. Category: Research Paper

Category: Documentary For the film fanatic/critic! In the documentary category you will create a ten-minute film like the ones on PBS or the History Channel. Two popular technologies used for documentaries are computer- generated slide presentations and digital video presentations. Whichever technology you choose, keep the following in mind: you need to have lots of pictures/video of your topic and be strong with technology! Category: Documentary

Category: Performance For the outgoing/attention lover! The performance category allows you to create a historical argument using acting. It will be a dramatic portrayal of your topic’s significance in history. Entries must be no longer than 10 minutes & must be an original production. This is a good category for partners/groups.

*When you are finished, jump back into your research!* Make Your Choice! Complete the NHD Project Category Proposal Worksheet by the end of class and turn it in to Mrs. Foote or Mrs. Grad. Begin by finding the project category you are most interested in and answering the questions underneath. If most answers are yes, this is a good choice for you! Complete the justification section on the back and you are done! *When you are finished, jump back into your research!*
