Safe Routes to School: Network to Success 3 October 22, 2016

Who is GA SRTS? We are the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Resource Center, working the 5 territories of the state of Georgia to help schools and friend organizations make their SRTS program successful

What is Safe Routes to School? SRTS is a GDOT program. - Educate students and communities about bicycle and pedestrian safety. - Promote walking and bicycling to and from school when and where it’s safe. - Where it’s not safe, help communities look for ways to make it safer.

Goals Lower and eliminate bike/ped-involved crashes near and around schools Reduce traffic congestion Increase safety while promoting healthy, active transportation modes.

What does SRTS look like? -Walk and Bike Events -On campus Education -Community Events -Stakeholder Workshops

Networking helps reach more people, gain support, and further SRTS Networking = Backbone -Large Territories -Resources and Efficiency -Symbiotic Relationships -Conventional and Unconventional Resources Networking helps reach more people, gain support, and further SRTS

Conventional Safe Kids Coalitions - Cover all types of safety areas, cross promote and help at events, share contacts and resources. - Already working with kids with an arsenal of educational and informational material as well as set events to promote safety. Regional Commissions -Strong Community Network -Understanding of long and short-term community needs District Communication Officers -Large Territories and common background (DOT) -perfect for helping us spread the work through communicative avenues
