What is a Legislative Day ? Association members “fly-in” to Washington, DC for meetings with congressional offices. Prescheduled meetings with congressional offices from the states and districts where you live or your company is located. Prescheduled meetings with congressional committees that have jurisdiction over key issues.
What will I be doing on Capitol Hill? We will divide into small groups of 2-3 people and participate in meetings with congressional offices on Capitol Hill. The legislative day will allow you to provide information to Congress on the importance of our profession. Opportunity to discuss ways for us to work with Congress on legislative initiatives. Establishes RCMA as the expert for our profession and roof coatings industry.
How will I be prepared for my meetings? Each RCMA member will be accompanied by a representative from the government relations team. You will be provided with a packet of information, which includes: Detailed meeting schedule Map of Capitol Hill RCMA talking points and briefing documents Congressional background materials Congressional meeting report forms

Tips for a Successful Meeting Congressional office staff Chief of Staff Legislative Director Legislative Assistant Legislative Correspondent Staff Assistant Congressional staffers can be young, but are very important. Congressional staffers are trusted and influential.
Tips for a Successful Meeting Start each meeting with: Self introductions RCMA overview Purpose and importance of profession Each congressional office will have varying levels of sophistication when it comes to roof coatings and the roofing industry. You don’t need to dumb down the issues, but read the room to make sure everyone is following along.
Tips for a Successful Meeting Remember: You are a constituent so don’t be afraid to make the issue local Talk about the district or state Mention the well known or unique industries and companies you help Get to the point Introductions and pleasantries are great, but leave time to discuss the issues Be friendly and find the common ground This is not the time to get into uncomfortable and prolonged debates Be mindful of the time, make sure you can get to your next meeting There is nothing wrong with having to connect again at a later time Exchange business cards and follow up with thank yous!
