In which conflict did France lose all of its land holdings in North America? French and Indian War

What explains why the Acadians were evicted from Canada? They refused to take an oath of Allegiance to the Protestant British king.

Why Governor Antonio de Ulloa’s arrival in Louisiana was met with an unenthusiastic response from the colonists? (hint first Spanish Governor) The French colonists had no desire to change their lifestyle, economy, and traditions for a Spanish leader.

Why was the Louisiana colony was a low priority for the Spanish after they acquired the territory from the French in 1762? (Think $$$) Spain knew that the colony had been a financial disaster for France.

It increased tensions between the new Governor and the colonists. How did Ulloa’s desire to impose Spanish trade policies in Louisiana affect his relationship with Louisiana colonists? It increased tensions between the new Governor and the colonists.

What was one of the greatest success of the Spanish colonial period? Attracting a large number of new immigrants.

Where did the Acadians come from? They were kicked out of Canada when the British took over and eventually migrated to Louisiana via ocean routes.

What factors attracted the Acadians to Louisiana? Spanish supported Acadians moving to Louisiana to help increase the population, they were also Catholic just like the Spanish.

What desired characteristics were the Spanish looking for when they encouraged migrants from The Canary Islands and the Málaga region of Spain? They are the cultural group Islenos we know today. Spanish-speaking and ability to serve as soldiers

Why was LA a more successful colony under the Spanish compared to the French? Spain: Expanded trade, built on the existing colony (improved infrastructure), attracted lots of immigrants, built a good relationship with Native Americans.

What was the Secret Treaty of Fontainebleau? This treaty secretly transferred Louisiana from France to Spain, the French did this to prevent the British from taking LA after the French and Indian War.
