Welcome Back. Write down the LT and SC on your Notetaking Sheet Welcome Back!!!  Write down the LT and SC on your Notetaking Sheet!!  Turn in your maps and timelines in the basket. LT: I can analyze how the US and USSR engaged in proxy wars around the world. SC: I know I hit the LT when I can explain how both sides could have won proxy wars. Why: Understanding proxy wars during the Cold War, other factor analysis, source evaluation, collaboration

Getting Started…again! Welcome Back from Spring Break! Turn to your table partners and talk about what you did over spring break and what’s a good thing in your life. Then let’s review the two sides in the Cold War – make a quick T chart at your table and write down everything you can remember that relates to each side – include: Beliefs, Alliances, Countries, and any other information that might fit!! Be ready to share with class.

What is a “PROXY WAR”? A “proxy war” is a war in which larger powers, like the US or USSR, used military forces of other groups and nations to fight each other.

As you are reading and analyzing case studies, fill out Note Catcher Instructions – read with a purpose – you are looking for information to help you understand how the US and USSR were involved in each country. With a partner, get through as many Proxy War Case Studies as possible in the next 30 minutes.  If you struggle with the texts, start with the summary and the timeline – save the sources for last. Reading strategies – skim and scan first, then read the text.  Remember your focus - US/USSR connections. As you are reading and analyzing case studies, fill out Note Catcher

10X Day 2 - continue your work 10X – Pick up the reading for your third nation... Continue to work on that for about 25 minutes Find another pair to work with  - preferably one that read studied the fourth nation that you did not analyze – review and process the chart... HOMEWORK – due next Tuesday (pd. 5) and Wednesday (pd. 6): Complete the questions on the last page – for the last question, try to use our normal paragraph structure to answer the question – including OFCD and CM. TS CD CM OFCD OFCM

10M – Day 2 continue your work Pick up a reading for your second nation... Continue to work on that for about 25 minutes Find another pair to work with  - preferably one that read studied nations than you did not analyze – review and process the chart...10 or 15 minutes Last 10 minutes of class.  Work on answering the last question.  You CAN work with your partner and you CAN have the same paragraph.  Use our normal paragraph structure to answer the question – including OFCD and CM. TS CD CM OFCD OFCM

Present to Others 10 minutes Meet with students who covered different countries than you did. As you discuss each case study complete the Comparison Chart Highlight each country in a different color

Write about it...finish for homework!!! Last 10 or 15 minutes of class, please try to answer the questions on the last page of the Note Catcher sheet. Especially work on the “other factor” analysis! Finish for homework -
