The War of Jenkins’ Ear Jenkins was a British sailor caught by the Spanish plundering Spanish goods. He was taken prisoner and his ear was cut off. Because Jenkins’ ship was covered under a Letter of Marque, the British came to his defense.

Meanwhile, in Georgia General James Oglethorpe is told to attack St. Augustine. He fails to take the town and retreats to St. Simon’s Island- Fort Frederica Spanish try to take Frederica but are met by Oglethorpe’s men and Highland Scots. This battle- the Battle of Bloody Marsh- was a British victory and ended the Spanish threat to the Georgia colony.
