New Colonies Emerge

Rhode Island Founded by Roger Williams after he was banished from Massachusetts Disagreed with Puritan intolerance and other beliefs

Maryland Given to Lord Baltimore (city of Baltimore?!) Created religious haven for Catholics facing persecution in Europe

Pennsylvania Charter given to William Penn (PENNsylvania?!) Created a religious haven for Quakers Pacifists (opposed war and violence) Every male settler given 50 acres of land and right to vote Freedom of Religion Representative Assembly to govern Capital city at Philadelphia (“City of Brotherly Love”)
