Standards-Based Reporting Progress Update
2013 – 2014 Implementation First and second grades are completing their first year using standards-based reporting. Teachers throughout the district have been working together to share lessons, templates, strategies and many other ways to help make the transition to standards-based reporting successful. HCS has become a leader in the implementation of standards-based reporting throughout the state of Alabama. Representatives from several school systems have attended informational workshops on how HCS has made the transition.
3rd – 5th Grade Continuation Teachers met in December of 2013 to begin creating standards-based report cards for grades 3 – 5. Procedures from the 1st and 2nd grade experience were utilized and improved upon. Highest priority was placed on creating documents that displayed cross-grade level consistency for parents and students. Teachers also created progress reports and standards-based skill clusters that will greatly aid teachers in documentation and lesson planning.
Implementation Goals An orientation presentation for 3 – 5 grade teachers will be conducted by the report card teams in mid-May. Teacher training will be presented during the in-service sessions at the beginning of the school year. Updates and improvements to the K – 2 report cards will be implemented simultaneously. Parent orientation materials and presentations will be created to help facilitate understanding of the standards-based system.
