Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application IACRA Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application This presentation will provide any airman with the initial information needed to register, log-in, and complete an airman application using IACRA. It has become the preferred method of processing the “electronic” paperwork associated with your checkride.

What is IACRA? IACRA stands for “Integrated Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application”. It is a paperless, web-based system that replaces the need for the Airman Application Form 8710-1. IACRA processes applications for airman certification via the web. IACRA is web-based airman certification tool based on the old “ACRA” software program. You do not have to install or download any software to access the application. IACRA allows an airman to register and work on airman certification applications from anywhere you have access to a computer with an Internet connection.

Why Use IACRA? It is designed to reduce errors in the certification process. IACRA automatically ensures applicants meet regulatory and policy requirements through business rules and data validation. Upon satisfactory completion of a practical test, IACRA will print out the temporary certificate. One of the benefits with using IACRA, is that it all but eliminates errors on the application. Errors on the Form 8710-1 that are discovered by Airman Records in Oklahoma City (OKC) will cause a delay in the issuance of the airman’s permanent certificate, as the application will be returned, (via snail mail) first to the FSDO that sent the 8710-1 to Airman Records, then back to the DPE for correction. In some cases, the DPE may need to get back with the applicant to correct the 8710-1. After the paperwork is corrected, it is then mailed back to OKC. This could delay issuance of the permanent certificate by several weeks to a month or more.

Why Use IACRA? (cont’d) It implements use of digital signatures throughout the certification process. IACRA automatically forwards your 8710-1 application and your test results to the Airman Registry. No paper documents are sent to the Registry! “Nothing to get lost in the mail” This web-based program has several advantages over the original “ACRA” program. First is that a single FAA tracking number (FTN) is permanently assigned to each airman. The airman’s data is captured and archived. A required digital signature is applied to ensure the certification data in not changed. There are no paper documents to get lost or damaged, example, wet or torn.

How do I use IACRA? (cont’d) To set up an account, go to the IACRA homepage at: http://iacra.faa.gov/iacra/ and click on “Register”. Chose the role that you are registering for: - “Applicant” or “Recommending Instructor” - fill in the required personal information IACRA uses “roles” to determine the level of access a person has to the system.

How do I use IACRA? There are three individuals involved in most checkrides: The Applicant The Recommending Instructor The Examiner All three must have an account set up in IACRA There are many roles in IACRA. For the proposes of this presentation, we will only mention the three most common roles that are involved in a checkride, i.e., the Applicant, the Recommending Instructor, and the Examiner. All three must have an account set up in IACRA. There are many other roles depending on whether or not the applicant trained at a 61 or 141 flight school or 142 training center. Those can be read about in the IACRA online instruction manual.

IACRA Roles Role Description Applicant Any person applying for an airman certification Recommending Instructor (RI) Any person authorized to instruct applicants and considers them ready to take a practical test Designated Examiner A person designated by the FAA to conduct practical test and issue airman certificates Each time an IACRA user, other than an applicant, chooses a role and registers, the information is verified against various FAA databases in order to determine currency. IACRA validates an individual against their FAA credentials. The breakdown of roles in IACRA appears in Table 1. This slide is a partial example of Table 1 in the IACRA online instruction manual. There are a total of 12 different roles in the IACRA program.

How to assign roles in IACRA? Note that each role is accompanied with the following: FTN number: A4403549 Login jpilot Password: * * * * * * * * The “FTN” (FAA Tracking Number) is the identification number that is permanently assigned to each airman that registers on IACRA. After clicking on “Register” on the IACRA homepage, and then filling in the required personal information. You will create a user name and password. IACRA will assign you a FAA Tracking Number (FTN). You will have this FTN number the rest of your piloting career, so you might want to write it down in a convenient place like for example, in the front or back of your logbook. Again, you will need this number for your checkride.

IACRA is not just for Pilots! IACRA can also be used for the issuance and renewal of an Inspection Authorization – IA and the issuance of the following certificates: Repairman – Experimental Aircraft Builder Repairman – Light Sport Aircraft - Inspection - Maintenance Based on the selection type you make, IACRA indicates the rest of the selections that you need to make from the remaining drop-down list by adding *Required Field* in red.

Still not sure about using IACRA? Try out the “IACRA Training Site” Designed to lead you step by step Downloadable instruction manuals Allows those new to IACRA the ability to practice without fear of “messing up” The IACRA training site along with downloadable instruction manuals are designed to allow the new user to become acquainted with IACRA without the fear of messing something up. It’s a good place to start.

This is the login page for the IACRA training site This is the login page for the IACRA training site. From this site, any airman new to IACRA can go from novice to expert with actual hands-on training without the fear of messing up the program.

IACRA Questions! From the IACRA homepage you can query 40 of the most frequently asked questions about IACRA. Also, on each IACRA data page, in the upper right hand corner of the page, is a help button that will provide additional information about that page.

General Tips Have your flight times calculated before starting the application. If you received your training at a 141 flight school or 142 training center, you will need the school’s 4 digit alphanumeric designator code before you start. Read the instructions that appear on each screen carefully before continuing. If in doubt, use the Help button found on each screen. As a last resort, you can contact the National AVS IT Service Desk. Their contact information is on the IACRA website and in the IACRA online instruction manual.
