Techniques to improve performance Sports Coaching Techniques to improve performance

Learning aims Identify techniques used to improve performance State and explain how they work (function) and how they can be used to improve performance

Coaches in all sports have a number of techniques at their disposal that they can use to improve the performance of their athletes. Techniques are very important to understand in sport performance. Firstly they give a measure on which athletes can be assessed to their current ability level, helping coaches to plan their sessions. If techniques to improve performance are used between and during sessions too such as goal setting it can make the delivery of a session more effective.

Use Task 1 sheet

Video analysis Video gives the person who watches it an objective record of a performance. The greatest benefit of video is the playback feature, including slow motion, which can be used to demonstrate skill execution, tactical efficiency, or a more general generic performance evaluation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGzy9i309kA&safe=active http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBaDDC6ca08&safe=active

Coach review Coach review You can also get a great deal of information from an interview. You could ask a performer about what they consider to be their strengths and weaknesses, or you could ask them about what tactics they might use against a particular opponents. Performance profile was covered in Analysis of Sports Performance

How does this relate to your assignment Describe (P3) and explain (M3) three different techniques (e.g. performance profiling, goal setting, SMART etc) that are used by sports coaches to improve the performance of athletes Evaluate (D2) the selected techniques that you have identified in the first part of your presentation

You now need to collate the information and start putting it together in a PowerPoint Presentation A check list will be given out in next lesson Start creating a list of what you think you will need to include You will need to look at both assignments.
