When Genes Flow… Gene flow= the movement of alleles between populations. Occurs when individuals join new populations and reproduce. Lots of gene flow.
Focus Lesson We are working on the DIAGRAM column. Your diagram should be meaningful and purposeful. That means don’t draw a BLOB. THINK. BE SPECIFIC.

Focus Lesson Example Column Can you think back to what these words really mean? A co-dominant trait would be like a white flower with red dots.

Home Learning Last class we learned about Genetic Changes. Your Home Learning was to STUDY VOCABULARY, and to make sure that Page 21 was completed.

Daily Objectives SWBAT explain how genetic variation, caused by genetic drift can randomly impact the alleles found within a population. SWBAT explain the concept of adaptation and its relationship to environmental factors.

How will we get there? FCIM: Example Column Page 22: Vocabulary List Last Class This Class Start Non Mendel FCIM Page 19: Notes: Natural Selection Page 20: Brain Dump Page 21: I.P. Worksheet Page 23: Notes Genetic Change in Populations FCIM: Example Column Page 22: Vocabulary List Page 24 and 25: Genetic Drift Lab Home Learning: Define the words from Page 22.

Vocabulary Take the next 5-10 minutes to copy down the 20 vocabulary words. You may NOT write on this handout. If you finish copying the list early, begin to define as many words as you can WITHOUT referencing your notes. This is a REVIEW. None of the words are new.

Sexual Selection Intrasexual selection: competition among males

Sexual Selection continued Intersexual selection: males display traits to attract females http://youtu.be/7dx2CUMtZ-0

Genetic Drift on Two Different Islands (Page 24 and 25) We will be completing a lab as table groups. No more than four people, no less than two We will review the lab together as a class, then you will work as a group to complete procedures 1-11. Each member is responsible for recording their own data onto the data table provided. This lab requires counting, and that you follow the directions explicitly. There are 2-4 brains working on this one assignment. YOU CAN DO IT!

Finish Early? Clean up your lab supplies, return them to the front, and begin working on your vocabulary list. DON’T FORGET TO UPDATE YOUR TABLE OF CONTENTS!
