CLIMATE AND VEGETATION CHAPTER 15 SECTION 2

WHAT CLIMATES DOMINATE THE REGION? EXTREME CLIMATES LOOK AT THE MAP ON PAGE 340. WHAT CLIMATES DOMINATE THE REGION?

THE TUNDRA (PURPLE) AND SUBARCTIC (LIGHT PURPLE) REGIONS DOMINATE SIBERIA. HUMID CONTINENTAL (LIGHT BLUE) IS FOUND IN THE WESTERN REGIONS. DESERT AND SEMIARID IS IN THE SOUTH. “CONTINENTALITY” AFFECTS CLIMATE BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE FROM THE MODERATING EFFECTS OF THE OCEAN. MOST OF THE AREA OF NORTHERN EURASIA IS FAR FROM THE OCEANS.

THE TEAL BLUE IS THE TUNDRA REGION. VEGETATION REGIONS LOOK AT PAGE 351. THE TEAL BLUE IS THE TUNDRA REGION.

FOREST WHAT IS TAIGA?

THE GRASSLANDS OR “STEPPE” WHAT IS A DEFINITION OF STEPPE? DOES THE UNITED STATES HAVE THIS VEGETATION REGION? WHERE IS IT FOUND?

THE FERTILITY OF THE STEPPES DEPENDS UPON CLIMATE AND THE UNIQUE SOIL, CALLED “CHERNOZEM” OR “BLACK EARTH.”

TWO MAIN DESERTS ARE IN THE SOUTHERN REGION: THE KARA KUM AND THE KYZYL KUM
