Presentation transcript:

“And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things…

…Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons.” -- Justin Martyr c. 150 A.D.

Matthew 28:9,16 And as the women went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him…

“It is by its worship that the Church lives, it is there that its heart beats…As the heart is for the animal body, so worship is for church life a pump which sends into circulation and draws in again, it claims and it sanctifies.” -- Jean-Jacque von Allmen Theology of Worship, 1965

Matthew 28:20 (MSG) …instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Romans 15:5-7 May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.
