Outlining a Speech Guided Notes
Instructions Complete the guided chart with the missing bullets. Then, using this format, outline your own 3-5 minute informative speech. A blank outline is available on the classroom website, but you can start drafting on your guided notes in blank column. SPECIAL NOTE: The only thing you will go the podium with next week is your outline.
Capture A statement/question that grabs the attention of your audience. It is the first thing that comes out of your mouth at the podium.
Motive • Tell the audience what/how they will benefit from listening to your speech • It is the job of the speaker to motivate or make the audience interested by showing why the subject is important to them See both the “Penalty” and “Reward” methods at the right
Assert • The purpose of your speech
Preview A sneak peek of the main points of the speech
Body Point by Point support for what you are talking about in your speech
Action (Persuasive Speech ONLY) Asks your audience to do something (whatever you were persuading them of) specific
Conclusion Statement(s) that wraps up your ENTIRE speech
Visual Aids You are your best visual aid SPECIAL NOTE: In addition to you, a visual aid is REQUIRED for your speech (10% assessment)
Planning Now, use space on your guided notes to brainstorm ideas for your speech. You will have computers tomorrow. If I am told that your time was not used wisely, speeches will begin Monday instead of Tuesday.
