July 2010 Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: Semantic analysis of the use of “symbol” in IEEE 802.15.7 D2 Date Submitted: [6th July, 2010] Source: Joachim W. Walewski Company: Siemens AG Address: Otto-Hahn-Ring 6, Munich, Germany Voice: +49-89-636-45850 E-Mail: joachim.walewski (curly a) siemens.com Re: Response to LB57 Abstract: This document provides an overview of the use of the term “symbol” (related to CID T-6 in doc 10-681, latest revision). Purpose: To resolve CID T-6 of LB 57 Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. Semantic analysis of the use of “symbol” in IEEE 802.15.7 D2 July 2010 Semantic analysis of the use of “symbol” in IEEE 802.15.7 D2 Joachim W. Walewski, Siemens AG Joachim W. Walewski, Siemens AG

July 2010 Background T-CID 6 of exact definition of the use of the term “symbol” in IEEE 802.15.7 This contribution reports on action items (1) – (3) in the recommended remedy Lots of the terminology of "symbol" are used in D2 draft. The exact definition for "symbol" in 802.15.7 standard is required. Add the exact definition of "symbol" in VLC to 3.1 or 3.2. Work in progress … 1) identify in the document where the term "symbol" is used 2) identify if symbol is taking on multiple meanings (overloaded) 3) define for each meaning "what is a symbol" for that particular usage 4) modify the text accordingly Assigned to Joachim to comply usages Joachim W. Walewski, Siemens AG
