BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS SP-11 BE SAFE STAY SAFE OCTOBER 2018 REVIEW A bodily fluid (not just blood) may contain organisms that spread disease – we call these Bloodborne Pathogens. At work the Bloodborne Pathogens we focus on are Hepatitis (HBV) and HIV (virus that causes AIDS). Avoiding bodily fluids or taking proper precautions (using proper PPE) helps keep us all safe from pathogen exposure. Know our policies on Bloodborne Pathogens and follow all rules every time. QUIZ Blood is the only bodily fluid to have pathogens? YES or NO Protective equipment is important to reduce risk of exposure. TRUE or FALSE You can reuse disposable PPE– TRUE or FALSE It is important to follow GDI policies and understand them regarding Bloodborne pathogens. TRUE or FALSE To avoid a needle stick and exposure to a possible pathogen we should never reach into a waste container with our hands. Bloodborne pathogen cleanup kits are to assist in small bodily fluid spills. Only use if trained and authorized. If exposed to a pathogen wash immediately using antibacterial soap. If fluid gets into your eyes flush with running water for 15 min. REPORT to Mgt. Seek medical attention – no cost to you. ____________________ Name (print) _________ _______ Date Initial Job Site:
