The Great Wall Was first built more than 2000 years ago and repaired many times in the next dynasties; Continues to surprise the world how an ancient people could build it without machines and modern technology; Was an effective defense project in ancient time; Has grown to be more than 5000 km long; Has been a symbol of China for thousands of years.

                                                                                                                                                                  

The Great Wall - a wonder or a disaster? The Great wall is called one of the “Seven World Wonders”, but it was such a disaster for people who built it. Thousands of people left home and died because of it. A folk tale related to the Great Wall,“Mengjiangnv (孟姜女) cried at the Great Wall”, tells of a young woman who finds that her new husband, a worker at the Great Wall, has died. His body can not be found because he is one of the many that died there that day – as occurred most days the during the time the wall was being built. She’s so heartbroken and cried so hard that the Great Wall suddenly collapsed.
