Presentation transcript:

Where it all Began Scientists believe that the universe started from a PRIMEVAL ATOM The Primeval atom was a very hot and very dense mass of energy

It was made up of metals, gases, and dust

One day…

All the pieces scattered and formed different things in our universe

The Big Bang Theory The Big Bang Theory is the theory that explains how the universe was formed It states that the universe was created when the primeval atom expanded and exploded

Proof for the Big Bang The galaxies are really far apart the distance between galaxies is still expanding So this bang is probably still happening and creating new galaxies and other things in our universe

Starter What is the geocentric theory? What is the heliocentric theory? How are they different? Which theory is actually correct?

Two Answers or Theories Heliocentric 2. Geocentric

Geocentric Geo = Earth

Geocentric = “Earth Centered” It means that the Earth is in the center of the universe

Heliocentric Helio = sun

Heliocentric = “sun centered” It means that the sun is in the center of the Universe

PRACTICE Scientist believe that the universe is Shrinking Constant Expanding None of the above

2. The theory that the universe began with a tremendous explosion is called…… 3. The universe is believed to have started from a ____________

4. What was the Primeval atom made up of? 5. Given the conditions of the primeval atom, is it possible for anything to live in the atom? Explain your answer

Classify the Following as Heliocentric or Geocentric. Sun Earth Sun centered Earth centered Theory of what is the middle of the universe

How are the geocentric and heliocentric views different?

Ptolemy Believed that the earth was at the center of the universe

Copernicus Believed the sun was at the center of the universe

Kepler Believed that the planets did revolve around the earth but not in a perfect circle. The sun was not at the exact center

Galileo First person to use a telescope to look at the stars, planets, universe and so on. This gave him proof that he believed the sun was in the middle

Newton Believed sun was in the center of the universe but gravity is what holds everything together in place

Practice Classify the following famous as either Heliocentric believers or geocentric believers Copernicus Ptolemy Galileo Newton Kepler
