Institutional Repository Toolkit

Outline What is a repository? Why have one? What are they used for? Are they costly and difficult to implement? What issues do I need to think about? Where can I find out more?

What is a repository? Repository means different things to different people. Could be book store, archive, file store, digital repository or even a repository or artefacts

What is a repository Repositories capture, share, utilise and enable access to the knowledge output of the NHS organisation served. This can include tacit knowledge, such as lessons learned, as well as poster presentations, publications and documented evidence/knowledge. --------------- It doesn’t need to be full text!! Only about half contained full text.

Why? Capture and retain internally generated information which would otherwise be lost Develop closer links with R & D Showcase the research within the Trust Encourage novice researchers. Demonstrate how LKS skills can have a wider impact

Dissertations/Thesis What are they used for? Research Papers Book Chapters Abstracts Posters Case Studies Research Studies Newsletter items Dissertations/Thesis Lessons Learned Local policies

Costly? Complicated? Free and/or low tech Dedicated Solutions Bespoke? Excel spreadsheet, PDF, existing LMS, existing content management software (eg Sharepoint) Dedicated Solutions Dspace (£3300 pa), Eprints (£5500 pa), Koha (£4000) Bespoke?

Issues If you build it, will they come? Copyright Funding Full text?
